NIRVANA YOGA PAYS IT FORWARD  (11/12/14)

Midtown has some of the best yoga classes in the country. So why are a lot Midtowners trekking to Grant Park to take a class at Nirvana Yoga?

It’s great, of course! It’s relaxing. What’s different here? Why are the locals talking?

“People have heard about our Sunday 4-5pm class,” said Leigh Anne Neal, Owner & Yoga Instructor. “We charge $5.00, and 100% of that goes to the charity.”

She is referring to United For Safety, or www.unitedforsafety.org . This organization is helping men and women who have been victims of domestic violence in marginalized communities.

“I became aware of this from one of our major support partners,” said Neal. “…the monies raised go to help people who are trying to get back up on their feet, and regain self-confidence after surviving or suffering-through unhealthy relationships.”

Nirvana Yoga is also dedicated to helping the homeless. And Leigh Anne Neal? She’s that friend of your friend who will walk right up to a smelly vagrant and give them a hug.

“Since I was a young girl, I have been drawn to help people,” said Neal. “My personal, heartfelt mission is to help the less fortunate. And think about it-- -a part of being on a Spirit Path is to help people who others shy from being around.”

Nirvana Yoga offers more than enlightened hope. There are classes every day, 37 weekly. Some classes start before you might have planned to get up. Other classes end about the time you are feeling guilty for missing Yoga.

The noon class is a nominal $5.00 and you just might meet that hungry power mogul soul mate while gaining some flexibility.

Leigh Anne Neal can be seen at more places than the yoga studio. Under her leadership, Nirvana staff
are volunteering for other projects that are important to Neal.

She’s involved with the Peachtree and Pine Streets Shelter, the Veterans Support Organization, and another very special project called The Learning Tea.

“It’s a great organization that helps girls in India, Pakistan, South Asia…” said Neal. “Many of these girls are sold into slavery. The Learning Tea program pairs mentors, presents crisis situation simulations, and helps young women to be aware of the warning signals that could save their lives.”
