GALLERY 874 SET TO LAUNCH (1/15/15)
"Our gallery will be crashing the Atlanta Art Scene," laughed Scott Richter, Co-Owner of West Midtown's hottest new art space, Gallery 874 "...this is more than pretty pictures, the paintings contain a message."
Freshly back from Art Basel/Art Miami, Richter said the reason for his trip was 'exploratory'.  Basically, he was in Miami looking for new artists for his gallery space in West Midtown.
"Art Basel was mostly early 20th century art, or mid-century works by the established masters.  Most of this stuff goes for millions of dollars," he said.
In fact Art Basel proper exists to target collectors and people interested in investment art.  "On our search, we were looking for the up and coming artists," said Richter.  "We found Art Miami was a better venue."
Richter explained that artists at Art Miami that could explain their work were more appealing.   "That was what was so overwhelming about the new art," said Richter "...it made the trip memorial and I was impressed with the artists that could express---in words---an explanation of their artwork."
The difference in the new Gallery 874 will be in the education of the attendee.  "Videos will explain the shows, why the theme and artists were chosen."  Most important, Richter said that you will leave with an understanding of the art.
"Many times, I visit a gallery and inquire as to the meaning of the pieces. One in particular was $40,000 yet no one in the gallery could tell me about the art. Why was it so pricey?  Was the artist famous? I want to change this with Gallery 874," says Richter.
The gallery is beautiful and expansive.  Richter chose the area because of the incredible development occurring in West Midtown.  "We're aiming to be different, and we're partnering with galleries in New York, Los Angeles and other cities to find great artists for the exhibit space," said Richter, "...you're going to be amazed at the impeccable art, message and entire experience."
Gallery 874 will be opening in early Spring of 2015, located at 874 Joseph E Lowery Blvd NW.   Visit www.gallery874.com for details.
