BEULAH BOYS STILL DANCING  AFTER 70s

They're called 'Boys' but these are men...some would even say old men.  "Age is in the mind, not the heart" said DJ Bosco, of the Atlanta Soul Line dancing group, The Beulah Boys.

The group, which started out of Atlanta's Beulah Community Family Life Center, is made-up of men between the ages of 60-75 who have a mission in senior centers across Georgia: get people moving again.

"We always say 'if you don't use it, you lose it'" said Nic Bowers, leader of the group.  "...seniors have to stay in shape, so line dancing is the easiest, cheapest exercise you can use...you can dance anywhere!"

The group travels around to senior centers in Atlanta and beyond to find those people who have forgotten that they need to exercise.  A lot of seniors think they can just sit back in a chair, but this is not healthy.

The Beulah Boys teach them that they need to move, even if it's a wiggle, or to exercise their limbs.

These men, who choreograph their dances to both new and old hits, really have an impact on audiences.  They believe in working-out everyday, and doing positive things that are good for the body and mind.
"We call it Soul Line Dancing for a reason," laughed DJ Bosco, "...it's good for the soul."
Don't think this group of men haven't had their share of problems.  Two members have double knee replacements, then returned after recovering to dance again.  Another had a hip replacement and was dancing the next week.  "You would never know these people had serious surgical procedures," said Bowers.
The Beulah Boys know that a lot of the members in their audiences were probably great dancers in their hey-days.  The goal of the group is to get these people aware of the benefits of dancing and body movement.

In addition, the group of retired gentlemen also entertain family groups across the state.  To book them for your community event involving seniors, contact Nic Bowers at 404 310-0067.
