After her husband was victimized by the court systems, Huffer, a family
& marriage counselor, decided to do something about it.

found was an ocean of complaints from people who had not noticed the
invisible signs of hypertension and other disorders since experiencing
court trauma.
Huffer, the author of
multiple books and papers on the subject, sees 'protracted litigation'
(i.e. a legal issue that drags on and on) as dangerously overlooked
until recently.
The book 'Overcoming the
Devastation of Legal Abuse Syndrome', is effective in assisting people
prepare for the entire court experience.When the case ends, people often need counseling to grieve, and overcome depression-based behaviors.
The condition, legal abuse syndrome, is a variant of post traumatic stress disorder and is covered by most insurances as well as qualifying under the Americans with Disabilities Act for accommodations when needed.
The condition derives from the sometimes abusive and lengthy litigation that many plaintiffs and defendants commonly encounter in the courts.
According to Huffer, you may be suffering from Legal Abuse Syndrome:
1) if you feel deeply disillusioned and oppressed as a result of your experience with the legal system;
2) if you have been frustrated in your effort to obtain justice;
3) if you feel your dreams and plans for your life were torn from you;
4) if you fear that the system will defeat you at every turn and
5) if you feel you have been victimized several times over by legal or court personnel.
The author said you may suffer from tension/anxiety; have recurring nightmares, feel emotionally/physically exhausted, numb, disconnected or vulnerable because of LBS.
